A man will spend eight months in jail for staging a car crash in Canberra to claim an insurance payout.

The man pleaded guilty yesterday in the A.C.T. Supreme court.

He was sentenced to 17 months jail, suspended after eight months, pending a good behaviour order.

The court was told, the man crashed his BMW in 2020, in the hopes of being given a 132-thousand dollar insurance payout.
