Greens propose one stop centre for sexual assault victims

Category: Capital Radio News

The ACT Greens will look to establish a one stop centre for victims of sexual assault, which would bring together key agencies such as forensics, policing and support services.

The party says the current justice system is failing victims of sexual assault, with charges being laid in just five per cent of reports received by ACT Policing, while only half of matters that do go to court result in a conviction.

A feasibility study will consider the best possible location and operating model for the centre, so women would only need to make one single report rather than needing to repeat the traumatic story multiple times to multiple agencies.
