A restaurant in Canberra will receive a $5000 fine after breaching COVID-19 restrictions.

This is the first fine issued by ACT Policing as part of the Territories COVID-19 response.

The venue is limited to 12 patrons under current social distancing rules; however, 20 diners were present at the establishment when Police attended on Friday night.

The restaurant had received a number of prior warnings to comply with the agreed patron limit displayed at the entrance to the venue.

Current COVID-19 restrictions permit one person per four square metres for seated spaces.
