$4.5 million boost for Canberra's mental health services

Category: Capital Radio News

The ACT government has announced 4.5 million dollars in extra funding for mental health services, as many Canberrans struggle to deal with the impacts of the coronavirus outbreak.

Minister for Mental Health Shane Rattenbury says Canberrans have had a very difficult start to 2020, with poor air quality, bushfires, a major hailstorm and now the COVID-19 crisis.

The funds will be used to increase capacity of both government and non-government services.

Money will also go towards creating two Canberra Safe Haven Cafes, which will provide a safe alternative to the emergency department for anyone experiencing loneliness and seeking social connection.
