Smoke haze may have caused 31 deaths in Canberra

Category: Capital Radio News

A study has found the thick smoke that blanketed Canberra during the horror bushfire season may have caused 31 deaths in the ACT.

Research published in the Medical Journal of Australia estimates smoke from the bushfires was responsible for more than 300 hospitalisations across the territory for cardiovascular and respiratory problems.

Smoke haze descended on the nation's capital in late-November, with poor air quality peaking on New Year's Day when the capital recorded the worst air quality index rating in the world.
