No plans to upgrade ACT rural fire trucks

Category: Capital Radio News

The ACT government says it has no immediate plans to upgrade its fleet of fire trucks, despite them not being fitted with "falling object protection systems".

Volunteer firefighters and the Canberra Liberals have raised concerns about the lack of protection from falling trees after three firefighters were injured when trees fell on their truck while responding to the Orroral Valley blaze.

Emergency Services Minister Mick Gentleman says the trucks spend most of their time on public roads and retrofitting them with protection systems could create hazards for other motorists.
