Firefighters injured while battling Orroral Valley blaze

Category: Capital Radio News

Three volunteer firefighters have been injured, while another has escaped unharmed, after a tree fell on their emergency vehicle south of Canberra.

All four were transported to the Canberra Hospital overnight with non-life threatening injuries after being treated by paramedics at the scene.

The ESA says firefighters had been using a break in the weather to backburn the blaze ahead of dangerous heatwave conditions tomorrow and Saturday.

ESA Commissioner Georgina Whelan says the fire currently remains at an ADVICE level, but local residents need to prepare for the worst.
