Construction on the Monaro Highway is set to get underway this month as the ACT and Federal Governments look to improve the road's safety ahead of the busy 2020 ski season.
The stretch of road between Royalla Drive and Williamsdale Road is likely to be first under the hammer, with improvements to include wider median strips, new safety barriers and an overtaking lane.
The Monaro Highway and Cooma Road intersection will also receive a dedicated left-turn lane.
The quick turn-around comes as a result of the Governments' decisions to bring forward $45 million in funding for essential upgrades.
