New laws introduced to protect child witnesses in the ACT

Category: Capital Radio News

New laws are being introduced in the ACT to protect child witnesses and minimise the trauma of giving evidence.

Attorney-General Gordon Ramsay will bring forward legislation to allow witness intermediaries, who wil act as impartial communication experts and help young witnesses provide clear evidence.

The intermediaries will be made available to children who must give evidence in sexual abuse or homicide cases.

The scheme will start in 2020.
