Pill testing trials could take place in other jurisdictions

Category: Capital Radio News

Pill testing trials could be just around the corner for states and territories outside the ACT, following interest from festival promoters in other jurisdictions.

The STA-SAFE consortium that ran Australia's first pill testing trial in Canberra has been approached to test pills for illicit substances at other national festivals.

It comes following a number of overdoses at events across the country.

But STA-SAFE say they will only move outside the ACT if other state governments get on board.

ACT Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris says if a second pill testing initiative goes ahead at the 2019 Groovin the Moo festival in April, she will invite other jurisdictions to observe pill testing.
